THE ART OF THE REMOTE START

Not all remote start systems are created equal. There are several remote start companies, each with their own features. While remote starts are primarily designed to simply start and stop you vehicle from running, how they go about doing such is where the art of the remote start comes in to play.

When shopping for a remote start, you might think, "what makes one remote start different from another?" Well, there are several features that differentiate the models. The following is a list of some of the key features and what they mean.

  • Communication Type

    • 1-way

      • When you press the button on your remote, it sends a signal to your vehicle.

    • 2-way

      • When you press the button on your remote, it sends a signal to your vehicle. Once the vehicle receives the signal, the signal is sent back to the remote to notify you that your command has been received.

  • Remotes

    • 1-way remotes can have 1 button which starts and stops your vehicle.

    • 1-way remotes can have 4 or 5 buttons which allow you to lock and unlock your doors, start/stop your vehicle, and an accessory button that usually is for opening the truck or hatch.

    • 1-way remotes do not come with an LED or OLED screen.

    • 2-way remotes stand out with their LED or OLED screen. The screen allows the user to monitor the car.

    • 2-way remotes can also have 4 or 5 buttons which allow you to lock and unlock your doors, start/stop your vehicle, and an accessory button that usually is for opening the truck or hatch.

  • Range

    • Range depends on the remote start itself and whether or not the remote start is activated by the factory remote or aftermarket remote.

    • The range can be from 800 feet to over a mile. Beware of the mile-long claims as those tend to not alway be accurate.

  • Factory Remote

    • Yes! You can operate your remote start from your factory remote BUT it does depend on your type of vehicle.

    • NOTE: Range on factory remote start settings is based off of the antenna supplied by the vehicle's manufacturer

  • Smart Phone

    • Operating your remote start from your smartphone is an option. Contact us for more info.

  • Ignition Data Module

    • Most vehicles are going to need a data module. The job of the data module is to act as a phantom key. When pressing the start button on your remote, the signal is sent to the remote start module to start the car. THEN the module has to send a signal to the ignition to actually start the car. Since there is no key in the ignition, the data module pretends to be the key which actually starts the vehicle.

  • Module with Data System

    • The module with built-in data is the ultimate remote start solution designed to maximize the use of the original key fob, transmitter or smart key. Simply press the Lock button 3 times to remote start and stop the engine. Instantly upgrade your digital system with long range RF extender kits or smartphone control with LinkR, DroneMobile, or SmartStart sold separately.

    • Add a T-Harness to your module for a clean install. No wire splicing needed. Perfect for leased vehicles.

  • Leased Vehicles

    • If you have a lease but are not sure if a remote start is worth it, ask about T-Harness compatibility. If your vehicle has a T-Harness, it allows for a clean installation that does not require any splicing of wires.

    • When your lease is up, simply bring your vehicle back to us to unplug the system. If you wish to have the remote start installed in your next vehicle, we can do that by just using another T-Harness that is designed for your new vehicle and reprogramming the module itself.
